DREAMS AWAKE
7 mins, HD Video, 2010

A meditation on immigration and expression through the experience of one immigrant worker who discovered his artistic and political voice in the United States.

SYNOPSIS
Like countless Mexican immigrants, Doroteo came to the United States to make a better life for his family, leaving behind his sons in the process. What was meant to be a short separation turned into more than a decade. To deal with his loneliness, Doroteo turned to poetry to express himself. To deal with the invisibility of immigrant workers, he became a union activist. This film explores the many layers of this charismatic man by juxtaposing his poetry and storytelling with scenes of his life both inside and outside the art museum where he works.
